Vintages Wine & Spirits
In the autumn of 1995, a friend of mine decided she wanted to open a wine shop in the heart of Downtown Colorado Springs. After finding a vacant building at 9 South Tejon, she asked if Dave and I would finish out the space for her. One minor detail that would have to be taken into account was that she wanted to be open by Thanksgiving – just three weeks away!
While we had been restoring Victorian homes for years, we hadn’t tackled something along those lines before, so we threw ourselves into the project heart and soul – literally around the clock. Designing, purchasing product, redesigning, cutting, routing, spraying lacquer until we couldn’t see across the basement, staining wood in the middle of Tejon in the middle of the night. We finished on time in what I (humbly) consider to be one of the most attractive, intimate, and nicest liquor/wine stores in Colorado Springs. There are certainly none other that compare in ambiance.
In the fall of 1997, shortly after they got married, Erin and Michael Collins purchased Vintages Wine & Spirits from Grace Dinnerstein, and for well over a decade it has continued to be a landmark establishment in Downtown Colorado Springs. Not only do they have an extensive selection of affordable wines from all over the world, they also sell glassware, beer, Cognac, Bourbon, Vodka, Single Malt Scotch, and many other spirits.
Their goal is to educate people about wine, and they frequently have wine tastings, classes, dinners, dancing, and other get togethers to further their goal. This is a wonderful place to shop for gifts (birthday, thank you, wedding, anniversary, new home, etc.), and they will package and wrap your selection in wonderful basket or bag presentations.
I encourage you to stop in today – sample, purchase, and enjoy. And tell ‘em Mimi sent you . . .
