Losing a deal – what you get is always better than what you thought you wanted

Losing the bid when making an offer on the house of your dreams

The dreaded phone callHaving been in the real estate industry for over two decades, there aren’t many stories I couldn’t tell you about the joys and the heartache of buying and selling property. When I was a newer agent, I hated to make the phone call to my Buyers who had been trumped by a competing bid on the house they believed was the “only one they’d ever love.”

Over the years I’ve come to believe, as an absolute, that if you lose the house you thought was the one of your dreams, the one you end up with will be much better than the one you thought you wanted. Never once in my career has that not been proven. Never once have my Clients not been thankful that they lost out on the first offer.

When someone makes an offer on one of my listings and I know how much they want the house but another offer gets accepted, I always try to encourage them with this undisputed finding. So don’t despair if you lose out. Keep looking. I promise there’s a proverbial pot of gold at the end of your rainbow.
