National Do Not Call Registry – What Good Is It?

National Do Not Call List – What Good Is It?

Is it just me, or have the solicitation calls been coming fast and furious lately? I have every number known to be in my possession on the National Do Not Call Registry, and still they keep calling.

There is not a day that goes by that doesn’t bring at least three or four of these unwanted calls. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t ask, AGAIN, for someone to put me on their DO NOT CALL LIST. It is ILLEGAL for them to solicit with a pre-recorded message, but how do you turn them in?

When a solicitor calls me, I tell them that I am on “the list” and to please put me on THEIR Do Not Call List. Then I program that number into my phone. I have one from Google that solicits me to rank higher on their listings. I get at least two per day from them, but there is no way to trace or report it because it is a pre-recorded message.

If it’s a human and I ask for a name, they hang up. Be that as it may, I’m working on it. Just can’t figure out why all of a sudden they are so prevalent. There is also an email going around that your cell phone numbers are going to be released to solicitors this week. That is a SCAM. However, it IS a good idea to get your number put on the list if you haven’t already done so.

You need to call from the number that you want added to the list, and then they legally have 31 days to get you on THEIR list. I’m pretty sick of it. Have YOU found a way to stop them?

  1. Its not just you as I have the exact same problem. It seems “they” (solicitors) flaunt the fact that they can call despite the “do not call law”. I even get the pre-recorded calls as well as the ones that go as far as to threaten me after I get angry with them. I keep getting the same ones every day all day. I’ve reported them each time but nothing happens. I’m starting the think the “do not call” registry is collecting phone numbers for THEM!

    • Sometimes they say they are sorry, Bruce, and sometimes they are just belligerent. But never do they take you off their list, and they just keep calling. As a Realtor, we hear horror stories of people who have been fined tens of thousands of dollars for violating the DNC list, and the automated calls are supposed to get the biggest penalties. I just don’t get it. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Not just you! I’m getting dozens a day on my cell & home (both on donotcall). The worst are the multiple numbers out of Oregon & Washington (on my cell) from “Tom” about home security. My son-in-law gets them, too, and said the “response” message that sounds like a real person who apologizes if you mention you are on “donotcall” is just a recording. The calls doubled after I tried that! I used to report them but nothing changed so I don’t waste my time anymore. So annoying.
Does anyone actually do business with telemarketers? Not me!

  3. I repeatedly get these calls on my home phone and have of late begun receiving them on my cell. I continually report them but to no avail. I am starting to believe that the National Do Not Call Registry is just another ineffective program run by the National Government. The people are probably among the “underemployed” (receiving a Government paycheck but performing no duty). I write to them in their comment section but again to no avail. This program is a real dud as far as I am concerned.
