Transitional Homes
With an aging mother, a developmentally delayed daughter, and an unemployed spouse at home, I have often quipped that I need a ‘menstrual hut’ to which to escape to get some work done. Lo and behold, along comes the Transitional Home.
With a targeted market of Baby Boomers with aging parents, the Transitional Home is a new and ‘booming’ business. A manufactured kit that costs approximately $17,000 for the pieces and goes together like a jigsaw puzzle, it may end up costing upwards towards $75,000 for this home that is less than 700 square feet when all is said and done (electrical, plumbing, drywall, appliances, etc.). In the long run, however, that is MUCH cheaper than the cost of assisted living.
Depending on your local building codes, the home can be erected on your property and is geared with the elderly in mind. Wheelchair accessible, windows that can be opened from a sitting position, extra large windows to let in more light for aging eyes, a ‘Smart House’ with internet controls, it is a brilliant idea whose time has come.
The Transitional Home can be used in any number of ways, not the least of which are those children that REpopulate our empty nests. It can be rented for income, or the owner can live in it and travel and rent out the main house. It would make a wonderful guest house, an office, or any number of uses to maintain your privacy but keep loved ones nearby. I have a client who wants one as a menstrual hut – for HIM.
